NdFeB magnets, commonly referred to as neodymium magnets, are the most powerful permanent magnets known on the market today. These magnets are widely used in numerous fields due to their excellent magnetic properties.
Content
The magnetic strength of NdFeB magnets is primarily measured by their maximum magnetic energy product ((BH) max). This maximum magnetic energy product measures a magnet's ability to store and release magnetic energy, typically expressed in mega-gauss-oersteds (MGOe) or kilojoules per cubic meter (kJ/m^3).
While the maximum energy product of ordinary ferrite magnets is typically around 3.5 MGOe, NdFeB magnets offer a wide range of energy products, from N35 (approximately 35 MGOe) to the current top-tier N52 (approximately 52 MGOe) and even higher. This means that, given the same volume, the magnetic strength of NdFeB magnets is several times greater than that of traditional magnets, which is why they are called the "King of Magnets."
For example, a small NdFeB magnet, just a few millimeters in diameter, can easily lift iron objects hundreds of times its own weight.
The actual magnetic performance of NdFeB magnets is affected by a variety of factors:
Grades such as N35, N40, and N52 represent the magnet's performance level. The higher the number, the higher the maximum magnetic energy product, and naturally, the stronger the magnetic force.
The larger the magnet's volume, the greater its magnetic field coverage and attractive force. Different geometric shapes, such as square, cylindrical, and ring magnets, affect the distribution of magnetic field lines and the strength of the external magnetic field.
NdFeB magnets are sensitive to high temperatures. When temperatures exceed their Curie temperature or maximum operating temperature, their magnetic force will irreversibly demagnetize and decay. Therefore, when selecting magnets, it's important to choose a strong magnet with the appropriate temperature resistance grade (such as M, H, SH, UH, etc.) based on the ambient temperature of the application.
Due to their unparalleled magnetic strength, NdFeB magnets have become an indispensable component in modern high-tech devices:
While strong magnetic force brings convenience, users must exercise caution when handling NdFeB magnets:
Extremely strong attraction can cause two strong magnets, or a magnet and a ferromagnetic object, to suddenly and violently draw together, potentially pinching fingers or even causing damage. At the same time, the strong magnetic field of NdFeB can affect the proper operation of medical implants like pacemakers, as well as electronic devices like bank cards and mobile phones. Therefore, a safe distance must be maintained.
NdFeB magnets, with their highest magnetic energy product, offer the strongest magnetic force of any permanent magnet on the market. From tiny sensors to giant wind turbines, these powerful magnets drive the development and advancement of modern technology.
