Although Kitchen Applications Magnets Neodymium have extremely strong magnetic properties, they are easily affected by moisture, acidic and alkaline substances and oxidation because their main components include active metals such as iron and neodymium. Therefore, in order to ensure that they will not rust or fade after long-term use in the kitchen environment, manufacturers usually take a variety of protective measures. The following is a detailed description of the protection plan:
Neodymium magnets may come into contact with corrosive substances such as water, oil, and condiments when used in the kitchen, so surface plating or coating protection is required. The most common protection method is nickel electroplating, which is a process that coats the surface of the magnet with a nickel layer, and some also add a copper bottom layer to enhance adhesion. The nickel plating can effectively isolate air and moisture, prevent the iron and neodymium inside the magnet from oxidizing and rusting, and at the same time, the surface after nickel plating is smooth, easy to clean, and has a certain degree of scratch resistance. For scenarios with higher anti-corrosion requirements, such as frequent contact with water or acidic environments, epoxy resin coating can be used. This material can form a dense protective film with excellent moisture and chemical corrosion resistance, and the color can be customized to avoid fading. Although zinc plating is low in cost, it has weak rust resistance and is more suitable for dry environments. It is rarely used in kitchen applications.
In addition to basic surface coating treatment, we will also optimize the process to enhance the product's anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion capabilities. Passivation treatment is one of the common methods, that is, chemical passivation of the coating after electroplating to enhance its anti-oxidation ability and delay the oxidation discoloration of the coating itself. In addition, some products will also spray transparent protective paint on the outside of the coating. This sealing coating further isolates water vapor and corrosive substances to provide double protection.
In terms of material selection and structural design, manufacturers will also take corresponding measures to improve the durability of the product. High-grade NdFeB magnets usually use purer raw materials to reduce local corrosion problems caused by impurities. For some special application scenarios, such as kitchen magnets that require higher protection performance, a fully sealed rubber encapsulation design can be used to completely wrap the magnet with rubber or silicone, which can prevent rust and avoid damage due to bumps during use.
The particularity of the kitchen environment also places higher demands on the design of neodymium magnets. Since the kitchen may be exposed to high temperature environments, the coating needs to have certain high temperature resistance. For example, epoxy resin coating can withstand temperatures above 120°C. In addition, anti-oil design is also important. By using a smooth surface treatment or oleophobic coating, oil stains can be reduced and cleaning can be made easier.
