"NDFEB" refers to neodymium iron boron magnets, also known as neodymium magnets, which are the strongest known permanent magnets. The abbreviation comes from their main components: neodymium (neodymium), iron (iron), and boron (boron).
NdFeB magnets are unique because of their extremely high magnetic energy product, which allows them to generate powerful magnetic forces despite their compact size. Compared to traditional ferrite or alnico magnets, neodymium magnets have magnetic strength many times greater.
NdFeB magnets are classified as rare earth magnets because neodymium is a rare earth element. Rare earth elements are a group of metallic elements that are relatively rare in the Earth's crust. Their unique electronic structure allows neodymium magnets to generate extremely strong magnetic fields.
These are the most common type of NdFeB magnets, manufactured through a sintering process. They offer the highest energy product and excellent magnetic properties.
These magnets are made by mixing NdFeB powder with a binder and then pressing it into a molded form. Their magnetic force is generally lower than that of sintered NdFeB magnets, but they can be formed into complex shapes and exhibit better precision and dimensional stability.
The magnetic strength of NdFeB magnets is typically indicated by an "N" series grade, such as N35 and N52. The higher the number, the higher the energy product and the stronger the magnetic force. N52 is one of the strongest grades of commercially available neodymium magnets.
While NdFeB magnets offer excellent performance, they are sensitive to high temperatures and humidity.
High temperatures can permanently degrade the magnetic properties of neodymium magnets, a phenomenon known as demagnetization. Different neodymium magnet grades have different maximum operating temperatures, ranging from 80°C to over 200°C. Selecting the right grade is crucial to ensuring stable performance in a specific application.
Due to their powerful magnetic properties, NdFeB magnets are widely used in various industries:
With the advancement of technology, the application areas of NdFeB magnets continue to expand, and they play an increasingly important role in improving product performance and efficiency.
